“A new, unique, interactive art fair lands in DC for the second year in a row.”
Imagine a Halloween weekend filled with curated performances, where you can meet and connect directly to artists, all while surrounded by beautiful, affordable art by up-and-coming artists from the District and beyond — with pieces starting at just $100.
Gain up-close-and-personal access to the next superstar artist — and take them (well, their art at least!) home with you. Discover art that’ll impress your friends, improve your life, and level up your home design game. We can’t wait for you to join us from 10.30 to 11.3 at Union Market.
You’re going to love meeting the thousands of like-minded art lovers who descend on Union Market’s industrial-chic Dock 5 for every Superfine! fair, and the 80+ artists who are thrilled to chat with you about their work — many pieces beginning at just $100!
Curated performance art is such an awesome sight to see at any art show and Superfine! turns the dial up to 11: here’s an insightful but quirky performance by New York’s Sylva Dean and Me at Superfine! DC 2018. Expect more of the same for 2019!
We created a better art fair that allows you to connect directly with artists, take home amazing affordable art, and have a great time doing it.
Hi! We’re Alex Mitow and James Miille, the co-founders of Superfine! Art Fair. When we started Superfine! back in 2015 we had been going to all of these art shows and art events around the country and the story was always the same: aisles upon aisles of white-walled galleries with artwork priced way out of our range (or with the price not listed at all!) and dealers hiding behind MacBooks, totally uninterested in talking to us.
The entire experience was unrelatable to us and so many of our friends. Not only were the artists not present, but it just didn’t seem like anyone was actually having a good time around the art. The whole thing just felt boring, stuffy, and exclusive — even to people who really love art.
As collectors ourselves, we wanted to find a better way for regular people excited about art to connect directly with artists and passionate curators. That’s how Superfine! was born: an art fair where real people can have fun discovering great new art by up-and-coming artists that doesn’t break the bank and — often for less than the price of a round trip flight — take it home and hang it on their wall. To top it off, our fairs are smaller and more intimate than the “big box” art fairs so you actually get to meet and talk to the hosts (that’s us, the artists, and the galleries at the fair!)
When you come to the fair and take home art, you’ll find our helpful packing agents at the ready. They’ll pack up all your lovely new art — free of charge!
Lots of artists also have prints on sale. If you’re not ready to commit to an original piece, talk to them about taking home a print!
Almost all of these works sold out at Superfine! DC 2018, especially the dancer paintings in Art Village Gallery’s booth!
Affordable, original art with a local flair? We think so, and they agree.
“A zero-pretension approach to maximizing the larger fair experience by leaning on the city’s larger cultural vibe and its local personalities.”
— Kurt McVey, Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art (on Superfine! DC)
“A kick in the creative arse of the DMV…one that helps our art footprint.”
— Lenny Campello, local artist and arts blogger
“Before Superfine!, my wife and I didn't feel like art was accessible to us. I always thought that art was for MFA geeks, really rich people, or just something you'd find at a Home Goods. But after Superfine!, I realized that art is is so much more. Not only can I appreciate the art and artists behind the work, but I can actually make the art a part of my life and home.
I must have fallen in love with every other booth I visited. Superfine! introduced us to a world of art that we didn't know existed.”
- Rafael Landeiro, Superfine! visitor (and collector!)

If you want to deepen your understanding of both art and this incredible community, join us for this experience co-lead by fair director James Miille and interpreters from the university. CEO Alex Mitow for a one hour Master Class on how to be a better business artist (both events Friday 11/1).
Last year’s Superfine! DC was an amazing, intimate art experience. More than 4,000 District dwellers got the chance to share in the incredible art, curated performances, and DMV art camaraderie.
This year’s fair will be even better (here’s why):
We spent the past year scouring the globe and The District for the best new artists. The result? 40% more local and global artists for you to discover and take home.
We’re launching even more programming (including the first-ever Superfine! X experiential art survey across DC) so there’s never a dull moment at Superfine!
Drink up! We’ve got enviable mixology, film, and multimedia art programs on tap that draw from DC’s finest and freshest artists + creatives.
We expect more than double the art lovers this year and premium ticket types and packages will not be available at the door. Pre-sales end on Wednesday 10/30. Claim yours today and don’t miss out!
Some more global love from our friends in the press:
“Affordable and unintimidating!
When Superfine appeared three years ago chanting that mantra, it created an art world shockwave.”
“A reaction to the inflated prices…on the high end of the ‘insular’ art market”
"The art-world antidote to 'the bloated, over-sized art fair model'."
Art with purpose.
Proudly LGBTQ+ owned and operated, Superfine! is committed to the economic empowerment of women, LGBTQ+ artists, artists of color, and all other underrepresented artist communities.
Things you want to know (FAQ)
Can I get tickets at the door?
Same-day Day Tripper + Weekend Warrior passes will be available at the door for $20 (weekdays) and $30 (weekend). However: Master Pass, Sage Pass, and Halloween Party tickets must be purchased online, are limited in quantity, and will sell out.
Will the artists be there?
The artist is present! 80% of our Superfine! DC booths will be helmed by the artists themselves: a diverse group of friendly, effusive folks who are excited to share their creative passion with you. Our remaining booths are staffed by the utmost professional and knowledgeable art galleries from the DMV and around the world, committed to bringing the absolute best new contemporary artwork to the walls of Superfine! DC at attainable price points.
What’s the price range of the art?
Accessibility is the founding principle of all Superfine! fairs. More than 60% of the work available ranges from $100 to $1000, and with an absolute cap of $15,000 per work, the remaining 40% tends to fall between $1,000 and $5,000.
How will I know if I can afford a piece?
You’re in luck: transparency is the other founding principle of Superfine! Every single work has a price + info tag, and they’re all clearly located adjacent to the piece. Let the artists tell you about their process, not the price.
Can I bring my kids?
Of course! Children under 10 are free, and children from 10 to 17 receive a 50% off ticket. Do please note that Superfine! is a contemporary art exhibition and as such nudity and provocative subject matter may be present (we think it helps young minds grow!) We also offer complimentary stroller check if needed.
Where do I park?
Union Market has two nearby parking lots but with close to 10,000 visitors, those will get full pretty quickly. We highly recommend using a car service like Uber or Lyft to reach Superfine! DC (also better choice if you have a cocktail or two!) or go fully green and take Capital Bikeshare (there’s a dock at Union Market right next to the fair’s entrance.)
Is the venue ADA compliant?
Yes! Superfine! DC is ADA accessible. If you need any assistance upon arrival, simply speak with a Superfine! representative.
I’m a student, can I get a discount?
Students of any age with student ID can access a special $10 day pass on either weekdays or weekends (no drink included). Student tickets are only available at the door.
