What It's Like To Attend Superfine San Francisco Art Fair
This March, we experienced just how ready the San Francisco market is for the first-ever of it’s kind: an art fair for independent artists. Without a strong foundation of direct-to-collector fair models, bringing our model of connecting artists with collectors and appreciators would provide a much-needed opportunity for forging relationships while strengthening the local arts scene.
Superfine San Francisco Art Fair presented a meticulously curated environment for both artists and attendees, with only 60 top-tier exhibitors in total. For artists, this meant being included on a roster exhibiting amongst the best of the best, along with less competition for securing potential collectors. That’s right: less noise around your work means more attention for you and your artwork from our qualified buyer audience.
Superfine San Francisco Art Fair
A city built on innovation and experimentation, the Bay Area was a prime setting for Superfine! San Francisco Art Fair. San Francisco and the Bay Area in general is home to one of the largest communities of affluent millennials whose consumer habits make contemporary art an obvious purchase for them. They also prize transparency and accessibility – two pillars of our Superfine! mission.
We know there aren’t enough art fairs in San Francisco to satisfy the populous and their need for great art, and Superfine! specifically knows how to hit the target demographic better than anyone. As artfairmag.com puts it, Superfine succeeds in our mission: “creating an atmosphere where visitors feel free to ask questions and talk about the art on display is essential to the Superfine! concept.”
Set in the waterfront space Gallery 308 at the Fort Mason Cultural Center, the independent artists and galleries who exhibited with us at Superfine! San Francisco Art Fair had exclusive access to 10’ high ceilings, museum quality walls and incomparable natural lighting.
We love how the experience was described by attendee Jon Peddie on his blog, “a showing of over 60 local and global contemporary artists into its 2,052 square feet of space. It was fabulous, to say the least, and overwhelming. A barrage of images in a room that was magnificently illuminated mostly by natural light. The paintings and sculptures seemed to glow.”
Here’s what Superfine San Francisco Art Fair exhibitors had to say!
“One of my favorite experiences included meeting and sharing insights with all the other exhibitors. I was also pleasantly surprised by the depth of interaction I had with the art fair attendees. People really want to get to know me and learn more about my art. Not only did I sell work and generate new commissions, I also feel like I expanded my network of people who really care about art and understand what an impact it makes on our lives. Finally, the level of excitement and positive energy at a Superfine! Art Fair was so beyond any expectation I had. The staff and the artists are all so willing to support each other and make the art fair experience successful on many levels.”

“I think Superfine was a great event. Everyone that came through seemed excited, the works were lovely, and It seemed to me an intimate platform for artists and galleries alike. I can't recall a wall that wasn't well curated, and think it was a successful showcase of varying content and medium.”
John, Art Attack SF
“Superfine Art Fair SF was everything I had hoped it would be. Sizable crowds of art curious people streamed through the booths every day. There were many opportunities for me to introduce people to my work, get them on my email list and make a few sales. The enthusiasm for my work by new collectors and those meeting me for the first time was priceless. The Fort Mason location, already known as an art venue, was perfect for attracting first time art viewers, seasoned collectors and folks out for a sunny day by the day. Ample parking, restaurants and a magnificent view of the bay created an upbeat energetic fair. I enjoyed visiting the booths of other artists and felt that we provided the public with professional, high quality, unique art. I met a few artists I’ll definitely stay in touch with and perhaps collaborate with in time.
A few Superfine SF attendees have already visited my studio and added new pieces to their collection!”
